Is your data ready for a dashboard?
If you can honestly tick six of these eight, a dashboard will work. Fewer than six and an audit first will save you money.
- Every sale or donation is recorded in one system, not three.
- You can name the date range any given report covers without guessing.
- Customer or donor records have a consistent unique identifier.
- Costs are recorded against the job, project or program they belong to.
- Someone owns each data source and knows when it last changed.
- Numbers in your monthly report can be traced back to a source record.
- Exports come out as CSV or a connected feed, not as a screenshot or PDF.
- The definitions behind your key metrics are written down somewhere.
Three numbers worth watching, by business type
Contractors
Margin by job type, close rate by lead source, crew utilization.
Nonprofits
Cost per outcome, donor retention rate, program completion rate.
Retail & e-commerce
Contribution margin by product, repeat purchase rate, return rate.
Service practices
Revenue per hour of capacity, no-show rate, collection days.
